EMC bags National Energy Conservation Award

Energy Management Centre (EMC), the State Designated Agency (SDA) to enforce Energy Conservation Act in Kerala State bags the National Energy Conservation Award in first place instituted by Ministry of Power, Government of India, in the category of SDA.

After the enactment of Energy Conservation Act 2001, State Designated Agencies (SDAs) have been designated to enforce and coordinate the activities relating to the implementation of the Act. EMC is the SDA in Kerala. The Central Co ordinating Agency to implement the Act, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under Ministry of Power, Government of India identified thrust areas to focus and formulate several programmes and projects. EMC with the financial and technical support of BEE/Government of Kerala is implementing several energy efficiency projects.

Kerala was the topper with 77 points in Energy Efficiency Preparedness Index published by Niti Ayog and Ministry of Power this year. EMC has implemented several projects with people’s participation in association with Panchayats, Public libraries etc. Last year, Pilicode Grama Panchayat in Kasaragode district has been declared as the first filament free panchayt in India.

Hon’ble Minister for Electricity Shri. M. M. Mani and Shri. K. M. Dharesan Unnithan, Director, EMC were received the award from Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan and Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power, New and Renewable Energy Shri. R K Singh at Vignan Bhavan in New Delhi on the occasion of the National Energy Conservation Day on Friday (14.12.18).
